Know The Gear

DESCRIPTION Whether you’re a seasoned brewer or a curious novice, the French Press is the perfect gadget to guide you through the world of specialty brewing. A reliable method that uses immersion brewing, it allows coffee grounds to steep fully before the plunger separates them from the brew, giving you a clean, full-bodied cup every time.

INCLUDED The French Press features a heat-resistant glass carafe, a sturdy stainless steel frame, and a filter mesh that’s easy to clean. The mesh is lined with rubber to reduce the risk of breakage and ensure a clean, grit-free cup. Designed to brew up to 600ml of coffee (about 4 cups) in one go.

How to Use

RECIPE For this one, we recommend putting on Hey Jude by The Beatles — brew as you groove, and you’ll be done just in time for the outro.

Add 20g of coarsely ground coffee to your French Press — Kaati, Otter, or Wanderoo are our top picks. Pour in water just off the boil (92°–94°C if you like being precise), just enough to wet the grounds. Let it bloom for 30 seconds. Then pour water up to 240ml. After plenty of trial, error, and a few extra cups just for fun, we found that a 1:12 ratio gives you a rich, syrupy brew. Stir well, place the lid on, and let it sit for 3 minutes. As the song builds to its finish, press down slow and steady. Pressing too hard will disturb the coffee bed and leave you with more sediment.

And there you have it — coffee that hits all the right notes, just like The Beatles.

CARE Once you're done, discard the grounds and rinse all the parts with warm water. A gentle scrub with mild soap now and then helps keep the mesh clean—no dishwasher needed!

Meet the Artist

COLLABORATION Made by Benki Brewing Tools

ORIGIN The French press traces its roots to the 1850s with a design by Henri-Otto Mayer and Jacques-Victor Delforge. The modern version, featuring a plunger and mesh filter, was patented by Italian designer Attilio Calimani in 1929 and later refined by Swiss inventor Faliero Bondanini.

DESIGN In our view, the French Press is the perfect entry point into the world of specialty coffee. It’s simple to use, doesn’t demand much space, and fits right into any kitchen setup. Cleaning is easy too — no special equipment or fuss needed. So, if specialty coffee feels intimidating, start here — the French Press will change your mind!

FAQs

Have questions? We’ve got answers! Here are some of the questions people have had about French Press. If you have more, check out our FAQs page or feel free to contact us!

What material is the French Press made from? -

Our French Press comes in borosilicate glass. It's designed to be durable, heat-resistant, and long-lasting.

Will the metal mesh filter out all the grounds? -

It filters most of the grounds, but French Press coffee will always have a little bit of fine sediment — that’s part of the charm!

Is it travel-friendly? -

This glass one is better suited for home use.

Can I make cold brew in a French Press? -

Yes — just steep coarse grounds in cold water in the fridge for 12–16 hours (or however you usually make cold brew), then plunge and pour.

Why does my coffee taste bitter / weak / muddy? -

That could be due to grind size, water temperature, steeping time, or coffee-to-water ratio. Check those variables and tweak one at a time to dial in your ideal cup.
