Know The Gear

DESCRIPTION Stunning gear for ant lovers, coffee explorers, or collectors of one-of-a-kind brewing equipment!

These beautifully crafted pieces celebrate both coffee and art, and are perfect gifts for someone just discovering coffee or for anyone who values traditional, time-honoured brewing methods.

The brass filter is a uniquely South Asian way to brew coffee — slow percolation of finely ground beans through a traditional filter. The result? A rich, heavy-bodied cup that’s perfect both hot and over ice.

INCLUDED

  • Ant Loop Brass Filter
  • Ant Loop Brass Tumbler Set

Optional Add-Ons: Brass Tumbler Set

How to Use

RECIPE Add 2–3 teaspoons of finely ground coffee (filter grind) to the upper chamber of the brass filter and press it down gently with the disc. Pour hot water (just off the boil) over the coffee, filling the chamber, and close it with the lid. Allow the coffee to drip slowly into the lower chamber — this usually takes about 10–15 minutes and results in a strong decoction. Once ready, pour a small amount of the decoction into a cup, add hot milk and sugar or jaggery if you like, and mix well. Traditionally, the coffee is poured back and forth between vessels to aerate and cool slightly before serving.

CARE Your brass filter is made to be used often, and cared for simply. After each use, rinse with warm water and wash gently with a mild soap. Dry it right away with a soft cloth to prevent water marks and uneven tarnish.

Traditionally, brass has been cleaned using ingredients found in the kitchen. Tamarind pulp is commonly used—the natural acids help lift tarnish while being gentle on the metal. You can also use modern brass cleaners if you prefer, but a light hand goes a long way.

Over time, the surface will darken and develop a patina. This is natural, and part of what makes brass age well. You can choose to polish it back to a shine, or let it evolve with use. When not in use, store it completely dry. Like most metals, brass does best away from moisture.

Meet the Artist

ORIGIN Tamil Nadu, India

COLLABORATION The Ant Loop set is a collaboration with Rajiv Eipe, an illustrator and animator known for his picture books, comics and short films. He’s also known to keep an untidy desk, doodle endlessly, drink copious amounts of coffee and stare blankly into space when deadlines loom. We couldn’t think of a more fitting co-conspirator for brewing gear that celebrates ants, slow coffee, and the joy of noticing the little things.

DESIGN Why ants? Because, to grow good coffee, one needs ants! Ants are remarkable indicators of ecological health in coffee farms because they play essential roles in pest control, soil aeration, and nutrient cycling. Their presence often signals a balanced ecosystem, as they keep pest populations in check and contribute to the soil's richness. By studying ant diversity, we get insights into the farm’s overall biodiversity, showing how interconnected and resilient the environment truly is. Plus, they're funny, cute little creatures with fascinating social structures, making them fab mascots for sustainable farming!

Here’s an ode to ants: our coffee companions all the way from farms right up to our kitchen counters!
