Know The Gear

DESCRIPTION These handloom coffee filters are made from kora (unbleached and undyed) cotton yarn of 60’s x 40’s count. Cloth filters allow more of the coffee’s natural oils to pass through, producing a clean, sediment-free cup with rich aromatics, a buttery mouthfeel, and a higher perceived acidity.

COMPATIBILITY These cloth filters are designed to all AeroPress versions. We recommend experimenting with Medium Coarse, Medium, or Medium Fine grind sizes to suit your flavour preference.

INCLUDED Each set comes with 3 handloom filters.

How to Use

RECIPE Picture John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ playing in your head as you go. Start with 14g of medium-ground coffee per cup—try the Wanderoo, Potter Wasp, Otter, or Kaati. Use water off the boil, just enough to wet the grounds. Stir the coffee vigorously for at least 15 seconds. Pour in hot water until you reach the top—around 200g, but trust the process. Stir again, this time with a bit of passion. Wet your filter with hot water to remove any lingering taste. Screw the top on with the filter neatly placed inside. Hum or croon the next few lines, then flip the AeroPress onto your mug. Press down smoothly and gently, no jerky motions. And hey, if you’re on the road, tag us @blackbazacoffee!

CARE You can easily detach and rinse the AeroPress, then leave it out to dry. No need for soap or the dishwasher—just a quick rinse and it's good to go!

Meet the Maker

ORIGIN Bangalore, Telangana & Andhra Pradesh, India

COLLABORATION These handloom coffee filters are a tribute to community, craftsmanship, and resilience in a time of crisis. The fabric is sourced from Dastkar Andhra, an award-winning organisation that has worked for decades to revive handloom weaving in villages across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The filters are stitched by mothers whose children study at the Parikrma Humanity Foundation in Bangalore—many of them skilled, small-scale tailors who face severe livelihood disruptions as the consumer economy shifts to mass-produced, use and throw garments.

DESIGN There’s a reason we designed AeroPress cloth filters to be reusable: we were shocked by how massive the manual brewing sector has become in specialty coffee—and how reliant it is on virgin, imported paper filters. Imagine: freshly pulped trees turned into paper, flown thousands of miles, just for a single cup of coffee. It felt bizarre, and we wanted no part of it. Our handloom cloth filters can be used many, many times—think a hundred brews—before they need to be retired.

FAQs

Have questions? We’ve got answers! Here are some of the questions people have had about AeroPress Cloth Filters. If you have more, check out our FAQs page or feel free to contact us!

How are these cloth filters different from regular paper filters? -

Our cloth filters are handmade using unbleached, undyed cotton yarn, allowing more of the coffee’s natural oils to pass through for a richer, more aromatic cup. Unlike disposable paper filters, they are reusable and offer a buttery mouthfeel with higher perceived acidity.

Are these filters compatible with all AeroPress coffee makers? -

Yes! 100%

How do I care for the cloth filters to ensure longevity? -

Simply rinse the filter with hot water before and after brewing, and hand wash with soap if needed. Avoid wringing them dry to maintain their shape. Over time, the filters may shrink slightly, so adjust your grind size and brewing time as needed.

How long do these cloth filters last, and how many brews can I get from one? -

With proper care, each cloth filter can last through approximately 100 brews. They are a sustainable alternative to single-use paper filters, making them an eco-friendly choice for manual brewing.

Why did you choose to make cloth filters instead of paper ones? -

We wanted to address the environmental impact of disposable paper filters, which often involve using virgin paper flown from thousands of miles away. Our reusable cloth filters are crafted locally and support small-scale artisans, making them a sustainable and socially responsible choice.

I run a cafe, can you supply these to me for my cafe? -

Yes, we can supply our AeroPress filters to your café! Please reach out to us for bulk orders and pricing options. We’d love to support your café with our sustainable brewing gear.

Our coffee is in collaboration with people and nature
